the meijer ad (sorry LJ, but that's where we shop) had canned tomatoes on sale for 5 for $5. at those prices, if you bought 48 cans (because if you remember, you'll need 2 cans per quart that you home-preserve), you'll still spend $35 more than if you did it yourself.
